Narrative:

I have loved working with paper for many years, I made cards and small handmade books but I was looking for something more challenging. I started exploring paper cutting and pop ups in 2008 while being treated for laryngeal cancer. I was hospitalized for 2 months after losing my vocal cords and I craved creative activity. Paper cutting and pop-ups were activities I could do quietly and alone and derive immense satisfaction. I continued to explore paper possibilities through the next couple of years. My husband and I traveled to Spain and France several times and there I became attracted to window displays where beautiful handmade papers were used, both 2 and 3D. I became hooked. After returning home from France in 2011 I began to search for hand papermaking workshops/classes. I enrolled in 2 classes at Arrowmont taught by Jo Stealey and I have not stopped making paper since. In 2012 I e mailed Helen Heibert, (who had moved to Colorado), and asked if she was accepting interns. In 2013 I worked with Helen in her Studio, then accompanied her to Codex. Helen was also instrumental in introducing as a vendor at the Calligraphy Summit in 2013 where I sold my paper, (primarily those using Native Colorado Fibers). I will be assisting Helen at Arrowmont in 2014. I am enthralled with handmade papers. They are an expression of one's soul in and of themselves.
